Welcome to East York Elementary
About East York Elementary
East York Elementary School has been a proud part of the community for nearly seven decades. Construction of the school began in 1955, with a formal dedication held on October 13, 1957. Located at 701 Erlen Drive in the Haines Acres neighborhood on the east end of York, the school continues to serve generations of families in a welcoming residential setting.
An addition to the building was completed in 1967, expanding the school to 25 classrooms and serving 563 students in kindergarten through sixth grade at that time. Today, East York Elementary School educates approximately 350 students, maintaining a strong tradition of academic excellence while fostering a close-knit school environment.

School Day & Learning Experience
The student day begins at 9:00 a.m. (doors open at 8:50 a.m.) and ends at 3:45 p.m. A typical student day includes the core subjects of English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, social science, and related arts, including art, music, applied engineering and technology, physical education, and library. In addition, string orchestra, band, and chorus are available for interested students beginning in grade 4. There is also a club program throughout the year, as well as a bi-annual musical.
Supporting the Whole Child
East York Elementary’s educational program is guided by both the building action plan and the district’s strategic plan, ensuring continuous growth and improvement. Teacher committees focus on important areas such as school climate, emergency management, and family engagement.
Students are assigned to instructional teams of teachers rather than remaining in a single self-contained classroom. This departmentalized approach allows teachers to specialize in specific subject areas while giving students the benefit of strong relationships and the feeling of belonging to a smaller learning community.
